My response to client inquiries about SEO offers

Ninety-five percent of such offers are fraudulent. While there are reputable SEO (Search Engine Optimization) companies, they are VERY expensive. A standard price to have your site placed in the top ten - in only one search engine... for only one month... is $5000. One large corporation paid as much as $79,000!

An example of fraud would be entering the search words, "coffin and nails" to bring up a banker's website. Really now, what does, "coffin and nails" have to do with banking? Nonetheless, the SEO company would demand prompt payment!

There are even more unethical SEO's who sprinkle words such as, "sex, free porn" throughout the website in an attempt to obtain higher rankings!

The latest gambit in internet greed is something called "paid subscriptions" begun by Bill Gates of Microsoft with his search engine, Microsoft Network (MSN).

You will note many SEO advertisements claim, "We'll submit your website to over 300,000 search engines." There are less than 20 major search engines. What is cleverly being touted are: - foreign search engines using foreign languages but more importantly... - something called "FFA's" (Free for All). I do NOT recommend registering with FFA's because they only generate a ton of SPAM email into your email software advertising THEIR products. They do NOT produce queries for YOUR sales.

How is SEO accomplished? Full time webmasters use a software application called "keyword analyzers." Yes, I have such software. However, you must tinker all day long, week after week, playing with different percentages of word popularity on each search engine. Then a separate website is designed uniquely for each search engine and submitted. You then continue to tinker - wait - resubmit - tinker - wait - resubmit, ad infinitum.

Therefore, quite frankly, unless you have a multi-million dollar advertising budget, getting into the higher search engine ranking chase is really not practical unless you are a larger corporation capable of hiring a full time webmaster.

Yes, I do register every client's website with all the major search engines that do not charge for subscription. Although the ranking criteria used by each search engine is a proprietary secret that is constantly changing - I do make an honest effort to get my clients as high a ranking as possible and yes, I do have some very highly ranked - in the top ten.

Then are there other techniques you can use to make your website more productive? Yes!
